Kymberlee Dougherty Tysk 

Founder & CEO

Kymberlee Dougherty Tysk is the founder of Hummingbird Risk Advisors and serves as President & Chief Executive Officer.  She is a seasoned professional with over thirty years of experience in insurance and risk management, including twenty-one years exclusively focusing on senior housing and healthcare.  Kymberlee has been recognized by Risk & Insurance magazine as one of the industry's "Power Brokers" for Long Term Healthcare. Prior to her work in the brokerage arena, Kymberlee was the Chief Risk Officer for a large senior care provider. Kymberlee is a member of the American Health Care Association (AHCA), the Board of Directors Network (DBN), the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (AAHSA), and the American Society of Healthcare Risk Managers (ASHRM). Additionally, Kymberlee held the position of President for the Atlanta Chapter of the National Association of Professional Women (NAPW), where she tripled the membership over a 2 year period. She is a licensed insurance producer in 15 states and a veteran of the United States Air Force.

Lora Shaffer

Senior Vice President Insurance Services

Lora serves as Senior Vice President of Business Development and Client Solutions, bringing over 25 years of leadership experience in Sales and Operations, as well as extensive expertise with Insurance Carriers and National Brokers.

In her role, Lora is instrumental in managing comprehensive insurance programs tailored to our clients' needs. She oversees the strategic implementation of coverage solutions across various sectors, ensuring clients receive robust protection aligned with their specific risk profiles and operational goals.

Beyond insurance management, Lora plays a pivotal role in fostering new business opportunities and driving marketing efforts to expand our client base. Her deep understanding of both Property and Casualty, as well as Life and Health insurance, enables her to provide informed guidance and support, enhancing overall client satisfaction and retention.

Kevin Keefe 

Director of Operations

Kevin serves as the Director of Operations, offering strategic input into IT direction that directly shapes business strategies for new and existing products and systems. He is responsible for the maintenance and troubleshooting of our company's IT infrastructure. Additionally, Kevin manages the Trax software, providing development, training, and client support. His project portfolio includes Cloud Migration and Software Development & Implementation, benefiting both our organization and our clients.

Kyle Hoyer 

Insurance Services Manager

Kyle manages Commercial Property and Casualty Insurance programs in close collaboration with our clients and broker partners. He provides comprehensive support throughout the insurance lifecycle, including proactive assistance during renewals and ongoing management of insurance accounts. Kyle serves as a key liaison between our clients and insurers, ensuring smooth communication and effective resolution of issues.

In addition to his role in program management, Kyle oversees claims for both property and auto insurance, ensuring prompt and efficient processing to minimize disruptions for our clients. His commitment to excellence is backed by a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences from Ohio State University,  along with recently earning an MBA from the University of Cincinnati with a focus on Health Care Administration (MHA).

Kelly Ripley

Director of Client Services

Kelly provides comprehensive support for our clients' workers' compensation claims and safety management programs, ensuring seamless client services. During the pandemic, she took charge of COVID reporting for our clients, ensuring compliance and allowing them to prioritize resident care. Kelly leverages data analytics to track trends and advocate for safety improvements across clients' communities, further enhancing our client service offerings.

Tyler Szwec

Risk Management Support Assistant

Tyler is a Risk Management Support Assistant working extensively in developing and maintaining the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement programs of our clients. Tyler provides support for our Trax software, developing and implementing incident report training. Additionally, he generates statistical analysis reports relating to professional and general liability, workers’ compensation, and QAPI for our clients. Tyler also provides financial services to our clients and assists in maintaining our IT infrastructure.

Melita Hobby

Claims and Compliance Manager

Melita Hobby brings over 30 years of experience in the long-term care industry in her role as Claims and Compliance Manager.  She has worked as an Executive Assistant in the General’s Counsel office of a national skilled nursing facility operator for the past 22 years, earned many designations including her Certified Professional Assistant (CAP) certification, and served on the Board of Directors of a HUD facility in mid-town Atlanta. 

Melita provides operational services such as PL/GL claims processing as well as requests for records, insuring they are in compliance with State and Federal guidelines relating to the privacy of protected health information.

Mellie Laurore

Executive Assistant

Mellie serves as an executive assistant in all operations at the company to help things at Hummingbird run smoothly. She works directly with our CEO and VPs to ensure our clients get the best service!

Mellie holds a bachelor's degree in linguistics from Georgia State University.
